Dear Mr. Cott,
We would like to welcome you to our first edition of
BCP Newsletter. BCP is the developer and owner of the power system
analysis tool NEPLAN and is one of the leading companies in
the power system engineering software market. BCP Newsletter
aims to provide you a regular update of what is happening at our
company. There have been a lot of recent developments at BCP, such
as the announcement that we released the NEPLAN Version 5.4.3. We
have also launched a new Asset Simulation Tool which we think that
is a perfect new tool for the asset manager of power systems. In
this edition you will also read a short interview with the owner and
founder of JT Systems and IEEE Member Jose
Taborda.
We are already
preparing for the CIGRE Conference which will be held on 23-27
August 2010 at Paris. On behalf of the BCP team, I wish you all
an enjoyable reading. Kindest
regards,

Hande Demiray

For more information about our special NEPLAN Offers to
our customers,
please contact us at: hande.demiray@neplan.ch For technical information about NEPLAN Modules, please

We are very pleased to tell you that we newly
released the NEPLAN Version 5.4.3. with very useful functionalities
and added 2 new modules to our program. All modules have been
improved but major improvements are done in graphical user
interface, asset management, dynamic simulator, risk based planning
and analysis and NEPLAN Programming Library.
As a NEPLAN customer, you most likely know that one
of our strength is the user friendliness of our program. The
graphical user interface is the easiest to use in the market and
offers all features of a modern CAD system. Very helpful, clearly
arranged data entry dialogs are added to the program. In addition,
our high end power analysis program have been further
improved.
An additional strength of NEPLAN 5.4.3. is
that, it is the only power system analysis tool in the market that
includes an asset management tool. As you can also read more in this
newsletter it is a perfect tool for asset manager for optimization
of investment timing, network structures and network operations.
Moreover, the NEPLAN dynamic simulator model has
been improved with very useful functionalities. Like all NEPLAN
modules it is very fast and easy to use. It offers unrivaled
features for transient stability analysis. Therefore, it became the
first choice for research projects at universities for transient
stability analysis. Furthermore, NEPLAN Risk based planning
and analysis tool and NEPLAN programming library (NPL) tools have
been further improved. The NEPLAN risk based planning tool is the
benchmark tool for investigation of the power system network
reliability. It is the world leading risk based analysis tool in the
market. NEPLAN programming library is also an extremely powerful
tool. This tool might be used for integration in new smartgrid
concepts or creating complete new calculation modules
or control algorithms in distribution
networks. Finally, we added 2 new modules to our
programm; Asset Simulation Module and UCTE CIM model exchange. Asset
Simulation Module can be used for medium and long term budget
planning. In addition, a test version for UCTE CIM interface is
now available on request. If you would like to read more, please click here
The new NEPLAN Asset Simulation module is now
released. It is a perfect new tool for the asset manager of power
systems as well as of gas and water distribution networks. NEPLAN is
the only power system analysis tool in the market, which includes an
asset management tool. The NEPLAN Asset Simulatiuon module is part
of the NEPLAN "Asset Management" product, which includes also the
"Reliability Centered Maintenance" (RCM). It simulates the future
behaviour of network components based on experience of the past.
Among others the module calculates the CAPEX and OPEX costs for each
year of simulation. The asset simulation helps the asset
manager, together with the future objective network and maintenance
strategy to optimize investment timing, network structures,
network operation, power supply reliability and quality. If you

For our special first edition we made a short
interview with Jose Taborda, who is very well known in the field of
power systems engineering. The owner and founder of JT systems,
member of IEEE , received the degree on electrical engineering from
the University of Sao Paulo and for many years he is using NEPLAN
power system analysis tool. We talked with him about the future of
the power engineering market, latest developments and his
experiences about NEPLAN.
Which power system engineering
tools of NEPLAN are you using? Basically the Load flow,
SC-Calculation and the NEPLAN Simulator for dynamic stability
analysis.
Which features of NEPLAN are unique for you, and
why do you use NEPLAN instead of other competing power system
engineering tools? The new Simulator allows the easy and
quick implementation of user models! The user interface of NEPLAN is
also very friendly and effective.
What are
the comparative competitive advantages of NEPLAN against its
competitors? The excellent support and quick response of
supporters!
Could you inform us about the most critical
features of a power system engineering tool for you? What do you
expect from a power system engineering tool as a
user? Flexibility, robust numerical methods, user friendly
interface.
How do you see the future of power system
engineering market with respect to product developments? Which
product properties are getting into prominence? I can see
that electrical utilities and power producers are increasing
requirements concerning power system analysis and prediction,
therefore I believe that demand of power system studies will
increase accordingly.
Do you think that power engineering
firms are working effectively, do you think that working closely
with institutions will increase their productivity? I think
the cooperation between companies and the universities makes sense
and in most of cases leads to a win-win situation.
What
are the latest important developments in power engineering market
that changed the market developments? Could you please give us
information? Well, I am personally involved to conventional
power systems business, but from hearing and reading, I think the
trend is going to renewable energy and smart grids.
Thank
you very much for providing us such a valuable
information!
We have shown the integration of NEPLAN in a
successfully running Smart Grid environment at the T&D Asia. The
visitors were impressed by our high end NEPLAN Power System Toolbox.
This is an extremely powerful tool for medium and long term
planning. The SmartGrid System allows to have a much better overview
of the network utilization and reliability. One of the most
important benefits of such a system among others is the off- line
analysis; For any point back in time the actual network state may be
built up later for NEPLAN and may be analyzed later in detail.
Furthermore, the whole grid may be continuously observed. For
